The United States Military Academy is accepting applications for
the position of Athletic Communications Intern. Responsibilities
include but are not limited to, all aspects of assisting the Senior
Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications in
day-to-day operation of the Office of Athletic Communications.
Primary responsibilities include all athletic communications duties
to include designing and writing brochures and media guides,
writing weekly press releases, compiling team statistics and
records, reporting to the Patriot League, assisting with game day
and press box operations, aiding with the daily maintenance of
Army's Web site, and assisting the office manager with various
administrative duties. The successful candidate will serve as the
primary media relations contact for several intercollegiate
athletic programs with emphasis on Men's and Women's Cross Country,
Men's and Women's Track and Field, Sprint Football and Men's
Tennis. The position will require regular office hours as well as
night-time, weekend and holiday work schedules.
Qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in a
communications related field. Candidates should possess at least
two years of experience in a collegiate sports information office
as well as a broad-based knowledge of Division I athletics and NCAA
regulations. Strong organizational skills, solid writing ability
and working knowledge of IBM compatible computers, Adobe In Design,
Adobe Photo Shop and PageMaker 7.0 are required. Familiarity with
StatCrew statistical packages is desired.
Starting Date: The selected candidate will
begin Aug. 1, 2008 with the position terminating on May 31, 2009.
Possibility of a second year if desired by both parties. Stipend is
$1,200 per month with housing on West Point grounds and all
utilities included. The position also carries West Point Commissary
shopping privileges.
