Graduate Assistant - Athletic Communications
Canisius College

Canisius College, a Jesuit college in Buffalo, NY, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.  This 10-month position reports directly to the Director of Athletic Communications and can be renewed for a second year.  Canisius College sponsors 16 NCAA Division I athletic teams which compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), with the exception of men's ice hockey, which competes in Atlantic Hockey, and synchronized swimming, which competes in the ECAC. 

Specific responsibilities include serving as the primary media contact for assigned sports, assisting with game-day operations for home basketball and ice hockey games and designing sport-specific publications. Duties include, but are not limited to, serving as the primary statistician and directing an efficient game-day media operation for assigned sports, layout and design of media guides, game notes and game-day programs, preparation and dissemination of news releases and statistical information, updating the athletic department web site, submitting nominations for weekly conference reports and other duties as assigned.

A bachelor's degree is required. Candidates should have one to two years of experience in college media relations. Knowledge of desktop publishing software (Adobe InDesign), Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and the Stat Crew series of products are highly desired. Candidates should have excellent written, verbal and editing skills, as well as some knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as it pertains to media relations.  Evenings, weekends and some holiday hours are required.

This position will cover graduate tuition in the sport administration program at Canisius College.  The successful applicant must meet the admission requirements for the College's sport administration graduate program (www.canisius.edu/spadm).
